- Amir Khan pulled out of the negotiations with Manny Pacquiao
- He accused Team Pacquiao of delaying the deal
- He believes Pacquiao is being advised against fighting him
“I have pulled out of the negotiations. I am no longer fighting Manny Pacquiao.”
These were the words of British fighter
Amir Khan days after saying he’s already “75 percent” sure to close the
deal for a fight against Manny Pacquiao.
The 28-year-old fighter revealed in a report by The National he is disappointed with the “Pambansang Kamao”
and his team for delaying the deal when all that’s needed to do is to
sign the contract. He believes Pacquiao is being advised against
fighting him.
He said: “I’m really disappointed in
Manny and his team. They aren’t playing ball. All that was left to do
is to sign the contract. But they are stalling.”
“They know I am a tricky fight for
him and they know I will beat him. Or else, why pull out of a fight when
there is a lot of money on the table?”
Khan said he won’t wait around for
Pacquiao like what he did for Mayweather. He disclosed he has other
targets that he wanted to fight, not just Pacquiao.
“I already had a back-up plan drawn
up in case the Pacquiao fight didn’t go to plan. We are looking at a
Danny Garcia rematch. I also would like to fight Tim Bradley; that’s
another interesting fight. A rematch with Lamont Peterson and, of
course, Kell Brook is also another option,” he said.
Khan said in the past he wanted to fight
Pacquiao because he sees the Filipino boxing champion as the key for
him to snatch Mayweather’s pound-for-pound spot.
In a report shared by Sporting News, Khan said: “I
am very interested in a fight with Manny Pacquiao. Obviously he’s
ranked No. 2 in the world with big names. I feel like I should be
fighting big names. I’d love to fight Manny Pacquiao and obviously
someone has to take that position from Floyd Mayweather.”
